Just as a quick update, I finally received the .22uf film capacitors so I was able to finish the work on the protection board. The film caps (the pink rectangles) are said to be preferable over electrolytic due to their low leakage specification and long life. Although I could see where the lead spacing could be an issue when replacing electrolytics, it was not an issue in this case.
