The picture above shows the untouched tone board (AWG-039) after removing it from the metal shields for easier access. Before replacing the capacitors I used Deoxit D5 to clean the switches and potentiometers. As you can imagine, there was 43 years of gunk to remove but the controls feel much “snappier” after the cleaning and lubrication. Unfortunately, there is a lot more of that to come..
Deoxit D5 is a fantastic contact cleaner that has been an industry standard for many years.
This is the finished tone board with half of its metal shield reinstalled. All of the electrolytic capacitors were replaced with Nichicon Fine Gold series and all controls were cleaned.
